The Army Career and Alumni Program
The Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) has been developed to provide a comprehensive system to assist personnel leaving the Army with care and dignity while retaining quality. The program is targeted to serve the Army soldiers, civilians, and their family members. The Center is open 0730-1630 Monday - Friday. It is the first stop for transitioning personnel. The ACAP staff evaluates clients' needs and prepare individualized transition plans. A preseparation packet contains guidebooks which impart valuable information on transition services and benefits. The ACAP Center is a contractor operated facility, and the Transition Services Manager (TSM) oversees the ACAP Center. This facility provides ongoing standardized job search skills training, individual assistance and counseling, workshops and seminars, and one-stop-job hunting activities. Individual counselors are available to provide personalized counseling as well as individual needs assessment. A reference library is avaiable for use. The ACAP Center serves approximately 2,000 soldiers, civilians, and family members each year.
Briefings & Workshops
PRE-SEPARATION BRIEFINGS.
Completion of a DD form 2648, Pre-Separation Counseling Checklist, prior to separation is mandated by Public Law 101-510. The checklist may be completed 2 years prior to retirement. The new Army Transition Policy now requires pre-separation counseling to occur at least 1 year prior to separation.
The Pre-Separation Counseling Checklist, DD Form 2648, can now be initiated from your office or home PC by going to the ACAP national webpage at www.acap.army.mil. Allow at least 2 hours to complete the form. Once you have completed the form on line contact the ACAP Center at (520)533-5764 to set up an appointment to meet with an ACAP counselor to complete your initial counseling session and print the form.
The Pre-Separation counseling session may also be completed at the ACAP Center during normal business hours. Please contact the ACAP Center at (520)533-5764 to set up an appointment.
3 DAY JOB SEARCH WORKSHOP.
The 3 Day Workshop is held twice monthly (Wednesday through Friday) at the ACAP Center, Bldg 22420, Butler Rd, Classroom #4. This workshop covers all of the steps to successfully compete in the job search process, including everything from networking, resume writing, job search techniques, interviewing, thru salary negotiation. Under the new Army Transition Policy this workshop is mandatory for all transitioners at least 6 months prior to their separation/retirement date. Completion of a DD form 2648 and a Pre-Separation Counseling session is required prior to attendance. VA BENEFITS BRIEFING.
The VA Benefits Briefing is held from 0900 to 1430 every two weeks at the ACAP Center, Bldg 22420, Butler Rd, Rm 1. This briefing is conducted by the US Department of Veterans Affairs and provides an overview of all Veterans benefits earned as a result of active duty service. Preregistration is required. ACAP registration and completion of a DD Form 2648, Pre-Separation Counseling Checklist is also required prior to attendance. VA DISABILITY CLAIMS SESSION.
Completion of a VA disability Claim is highly recommended for an service member who has had an injury, illness, accident, or operation while on active duty. Every 2 weeks the VA conducts a Disability Claims session at the ACAP Center to assist in the preparation and acceptance of those claims. The Service member may file their claim through this process up to 6 months prior to their separation/retirement date. Service members must have a complete copy of their medical records to include with their claim. Contact the ACAP Center to schedule attendance.
VA DISABLED TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (DTAP) BRIEFING.
This briefing is designed to discuss special VA services available to service members who are being considered for medical separation, either through MEB/PEB, DES, or medical retirement. This briefing is mandatory for all personnel at the beginning of the MEB/PEB or DES process. Call the ACAP Center to schedule attendance.
